Presentation of the Cadet Forces Medal (CFM) to Flight Lieutenant Mark Killingback RAFVR(T) by Town Mayor Councillor Geoffrey Evans CC

Mark Killingback joined 781 Newquay Squadron Air Training Corps as a cadet before joining the Merchant Navy in 1979.

Mark was commissioned as Pilot Officer at 781 Squadron in December 1999 and served as a Squadron Officer whilst on leave from the merchant navy.

In April 2001 Mark moved toFalmouthto work ashore at Falmouth Harbour Office and transferred to 1157 Falmouth and District Squadron as a Squadron Officer.

Popular Shuttle Bus Service Upgraded

Falmouth’s community Shuttle Bus that joins two key parts of the Town Centre has been upgraded to provide a more accessible service. The updated bus will be in operation from Monday 7th May and although the same size as its predecessor, it is a great improvement with twin opening doors and step free entry, making access far easier.

The Town Council contribute £10,000 annually towards the running costs of this popular community service and Cornwall Council meet the remaining costs. 

Universities showcase creativity and lift the lid on research for the local community

University College Falmouth and the University of Exeter, who share and jointly manage the Tremough Campus in Penryn, will be showcasing creativity, originality and ground-breaking research in all sorts of ways for the local community and visitors to the town to enjoy between 10am and 4pm on Saturday 19 May 2012.

From performances and photography to dolphin monitoring equipment and marine energy test devices, there will be a whole host of things for all the family to see and do at two pop-up venues in the town throughout the day.

The Healthy Weight Programme

Weight Matters is a FREE 12 week course being delivered by the NHS 'Healthy Weight Programme' it is a unique healthy lifestyle course that supports people to make and maintain behaviour changes around eating healthily and becoming more active. These courses are most suitable for anyone who has high cholesterol, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or any other weight related issues.

Universities champion biodiversity at their Cornish campuses

Students from the University of Exeter (UoE) and University College Falmouth (UCF) have joined forces with the Tremough Campus Services Group (TCSG), the partnership that delivers buildings, facilities and services on behalf of the two institutions in Cornwall, to collaborate on the formation of a new Biodiversity Enhancement Plan for the Tremough and Woodlane Campuses.

Students’ Union uphill struggle to crown winner of first Woodlane bike race

In the words of multiple Tour de France champion, Lance Armstrong: “If you worried about falling off the bike, you'd never get on.”

It is in this great spirit of determination that the Falmouth and Exeter Students’ Union, FXU, in partnership with University College Falmouth (UCF), present the fun spectacle that will be the first ever Woodlane Uphill Bike Race.
