Commemoration of John Parnell

Mick Stevens, Chairman Falmouth Branch, The Royal Naval Association presented the Town Mayor Councillor Grenville Chappel, on behalf of the RNA, with a hall marked silver dish inscribed 1939-45 Falmouth Remembrance of J.K.A Parnell.

The Silver Dish, Commissioned By His Parents, John & Louise Parnell Of Falmouth, Commemorates The Life Of Telegraphist John Kenneth Ainsworth Parnell D/JX194166 RN Killed In Action At The Sinking Of HMS Hermione 16 June 1942.

4th Falmouth Beavers & Cubs Visit the Mayor's Parlour

4th Falmouth Beavers and Cubs visited the Mayor recently to find out what the Mayor does and to take a look at all the Civic regalia. The youngsters enjoyed asking the Mayor lots of questions and looking around the Chamber and Parlour. They also had the chance to hold the mace and wear the Mayoral chain of office, with one lucky member dressing up in all the Mayoral regalia. The Mayor commented “this is a fantastic engaging group of youngsters and it is great to see so many getting involved in community groups at such a young age.”

Mayor's Charity Presentation

Town Mayor Councillor Grenville Chappel presented a cheque for £3,248.15 to Tony Robinson, Chair of the Youth Committee for the Rotary Club of Falmouth, who accepted it on behalf of the Mayor’s Charity Kernow Young Carers. The Rotary Club work with the Charity and monitors requests for financial help from young carers in the Falmouth area and a Committee evaluates all requests and funds are distributed in small tranches to support those young carers.

Recognition of former Town Mayors

There was a special ceremony as part of Falmouth Town Council’s meeting this week. Town Mayor Grenville Chappel presented specially made civic insignia to former town mayors as a recognition of their service to the Council and community. Maureen Davies served 2002 to 2005, Roger Bonney 2005 to 2007, Mike Varney 2007 to 2009, John Body 2014 to 2015, Geoffrey Evans 1976 to 1978, 1993 to 1995, 2000 to 2002, and 2009 to 2014 who was unable to attend the ceremony. Roger and Geoffrey are currently serving councillors.

Plastic Free Falmouth Pop-Up Banner

Plastic Free Falmouth were delighted to receive their roll-up banner to promote awareness of the problem of single use plastic. The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Tony Parker, purchased the banner for the group and said ‘I am pleased to purchase a roll-up banner from my Councillor Community Chest for Plastic Free Falmouth for the group to use at community events.

Falmouth Pilot Gig Club Launch of New Boat ‘Arwenack’

On 12th January 2019, Falmouth Pilot Gig Club launched their new Pilot Gig ‘Arwenack’ at the Watersports Centre in Falmouth, Cornwall.

Club members past & present plus supporters gathered at the water’s edge to see the brand new Cornish Pilot Gig built by Peter Williams and blessed by Revd. Jon Robertshaw from The Mission to Seafarers which was launched officially for her first outing on the water.

Deputy Mayor Councillor Tony Parker stated it was a pleasure for me to attend, be part of the occasion and represent Falmouth Town Council and the Community.
