HMS Severn Commanding Officer calls in on the Town Mayor

Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Commander Steven Banfield of HMS Severn received a warm welcome from the Town Mayor, Councillor John Body and his wife Linda, during its visit to Falmouth this month. The welcoming party also included the Town Clerk, Mark Williams and Falmouth’s Deputy Royal Naval Liaison Officer, Sub Lt Phil Reid.

HMS Severn, a River Class Offshore Patrol Vessel has been undergoing a routine maintenance period in Falmouth with A&P.

World War 1 Commemoration Events

Falmouth commemorated the First World War on Sunday 3rd August with a short Service at Kimberley Park War Memorial and Picnic in the Park followed by an evening Great War Service at King Charles the Martyr Church organised by Falmouth Churches Together. The Town Mayor Councillor John Body and Falmouth’s Local Member of Parliament Sarah Newton attended the services along with Councillors, Veterans and Service Personnel.

Kimberley Park Receives Green Flag Award

Falmouth is among a record breaking 1470 green spaces across the UK to receive a Green Flag Award.

Kimberley Park has again been successful in the national award for public and community parks and green spaces which recognises well managed, high-quality green spaces. The Town Mayor will raise the green flag on Monday 28th July to celebrate, which coincides with the start of the Love Parks Week.

Fashion Show

Falmouth Festival Fund are hosting a community Fashion Show on Friday 25th July 2014 at Princess Pavilion from 730pm featuring special guest performance by Preachin' Country.

Tickets are available from the Princess Pavilion Box Office Monday to Friday from 9am to 1pm. Tel: 01326 211222.

All proceeds go towards Falmouth Festival Fund to help with Christmas Lighting and Festivities and are match funded by Falmouth Town Council.

Partnership to launch integrated university campus bus service for new academic year

Falmouth University (Falmouth) and the University of Exeter in Cornwall (UoE) recently tendered for an inter-campus bus service through their shared service delivery partner, Falmouth Exeter Plus (FX Plus), to reflect the needs of the majority of students and staff who travel to the Penryn Campus by bus.

First Bus won the contract and First Fal River (FFR) – a commercial arrangement between First Bus and Fal River Links – will operate a new bus service for students, staff and local residents between the Penryn and Falmouth Campuses from Monday 8 September for a five-year period.

Town Mayor Reports upon Visit to Falmouth Age UK

I am delighted to have Falmouth Age UK as my Mayoral Charity.  After visiting the centre I have learnt that Falmouth Age UK certainly gives so much valuable care and assistance to our community.  It  currently supports 93 people over 5 days, some visit all week others just one or two days. The day centre supports people in and around the Falmouth area with day care, transport and social activities. They have qualified care staff who can assist people that need support and those who are independent can come and enjoy a day with activities and socialise with others.

SANDS Coffee Morning

On Friday 20th June from 10am to 12pm SANDS (Still-birth and Neonatal Death Society) are holding a coffee morning and knitting drive in the Council Chamber, Municipal Buildings, The Moor, Falmouth.

All welcome, please come along for a cup of coffee / tea, cake and a chat.

Volunteer knitters are invited to knit blankets for the precious Memory Boxes. Wool will be distributed on a first come first served bases.
