Falmouth Town Council declared a Climate Emergency in October 2021 and pledges to be fully carbon neutral by 2030.
Carbon Audit
A Carbon Audit was adopted by Falmouth Town Council in May 2024, which set out plans for immediate and long-term carbon reduction.
The environmental remit of the council focuses on future-proofing energy consumption across all its assets. It has direct control over 16 buildings, 9 open spaces and 8 vehicles;
- Buildings: The Old Post Office on the Moor, Princess Pavilion, The Municipal Buildings, Kimberley Park Lodge, The Mortuary, Pennance Road Lodge, Cemetery Workshop, Chapel of Rest, Public toilets at Maenporth, Swanpool, Gyllyngvase, Grove Place, Kimberley Park, Webber St and Prince of Wales Pier).
- Parks & open spaces: Kimberley Park Gardens, The Bowly, Trescobeas, Falmouth Cemeteries x 2, Ponsharden Congregational Cemetery, Dracaena Fields, Swanvale & Woodhouse Terrace allotments, Gyllyngdune Gardens, Pendennis Point
- Machinery: 5 vans, 2 mowers and x1 electric van
In addition to the above, the Council also has influence over events that take place within the town and manages some Cornwall Council assets including the paths on the South West Coast path which traverse Falmouth and three roundabouts.
Falmouth Town Council actively commits to reducing its carbon impact wherever it has direct control.
Carbon Reduction Plan
A Carbon Reduction Plan has been prepared that outlines the steps the Council will take to deliver a more sustainable council capable of continuing to provide services to Falmouth residents.
