King Charles Primary School welcomes the local community

Scientific investigations, exciting writing, animation, Oyster Festival flag design, maths games and music-making are just some of the activities that King Charles Primary School will showcase to visitors at its annual Open Day on Saturday 8 October 2011.

The School will be open between 9.30am and midday and looks forward to welcoming you whatever your interest is in its vibrant educational community.

Lecture series Digital Economy: Research in practice continues this year.

The series will be launched by Prof Jeremy Diggle on the 25 October 2011 who will talk about a range of digital art projects he has been involved in where narrative element is developed in conjunction between exhibition installations and web, or as a blog based narrative site.

Celebrating 350 Years of Falmouth's Royal Charter

On October 5th 1661 King Charles II granted the royal charter to Falmouth establishing it as a town and giving its citizens certain rights.

He did this as a thanks to those in Pendennis Castle for standing out against his enemies. In return, a church was built dedicated to his father, King Charles the Martyr. So October 5th this year marks the 350th anniversary.

The initiative to celebrate the anniversary with a programme of events has been led by the Rotary Club of Falmouth who have been working in conjunction with the Town Council and other local organisations.

Cornwall’s greatest fortress, Pendennis Castle celebrates Falmouth 350!

To honour the occasion, on ‘Charter Day’ there will be free entry for all TR10 and TR11 residents on proof of residence* to Pendennis Castle, Wednesday 5th October. King Charles II awarded Falmouth its town charter in 1661 in recognition of the loyalty shown to his father, King Charles, by in 1646, refusing to surrender Pendennis Castle to the Parliamentarian army.

Visitor Information Centre in Falmouth to Reopen

Falmouth Town Council, Visit Cornwall and Cornwall Council are delighted to announce the future of tourist Information in Falmouth looks to have been secured. It is planned that a new Visitor Information Centre will operate from the previous TIC offices on Prince of Wales Pier, on Monday 1st August, with a new style of service operated by Cornwall Ferries Ltd.

Hollywood Blockbuster to be held in Falmouth next month

One of the biggest film studios in the world is set to use Falmouth, Cornwall, as a key location for a multi-million pound zombie thriller being filmed this summer. The Paramount Pictures production World War Z will be partially shot onboard a ship from August 2nd to August 12th. In advance of the filming Paramount has issued an urgent call for extras, with casting taking place this Saturday (July 16th) and Sunday (July 17th) from 10am until 5pm in the gymnasium at Truro School.

J.P. Morgan Asset Management announced as title sponsor of Finn Gold Cup 2011

The Royal Cornwall Yacht Club (RCYC) is pleased to announce that investment management firm J.P. Morgan Asset Management will be the title sponsor of the Finn Gold Cup which takes place in Falmouth from 13 – 18 May 2012. The J.P. Morgan Asset Management sponsorship extends to the whole Falmouth Finn Festival, which consists of two championships for the Finn Class dinghy starting with the British National Finn Championship and followed by the Finn Gold Cup.
